The city of Montpellier
Located half way between Paris and Barcelona, Montpellier is the ideal stop-over to discover the South of France and the Languedoc region.
8th biggest city in France, young and dynamic, Montpellier offers many treasures and is well worth a visit on its own.
The historical center
The historical medieval center, which entirely pedestrianized, is an invitation to stroll through the little streets and lounge around on one of the terrasses of the many cafés and wine bars. There are several monuments to discover : the must-see Place de la comédie with its famous fountain, the Saint-Pierre cathedral, the Saint-Roch church, the Sainte-Anne church which has been transformed into an art exhibition venue or even the “Arc de triomphe” and the parc du Peyrou…
You can also take a free walking tour of the city with a friendly guide to learn more about its history. Art lovers will find what they are looking for at the Fabre museum, which exhibits classical pieces or at the brand new contemporary art museum: la Panacée. Antigone
The Antigone district was built by the catalan architect Ricardo Bofill at the end of the 70s. A long pedestrain avenue, scaterred with fountains is the main artery of the district which lnks the historical center to the river Lez. The impressive and pompous neo-greek style of the architecture is worth seeing.

-Got to the Arceaux market to taste the products of local producers. It takes place every Tuesday and Saturday morning under the impressive arches of a 19th century aqueduct.
-Visit the new city hall, a nice example of modern architecture built by Jean Nouvel and discover the new Port Marianne district with its restaurants dotted around the Jacques Coeur pond.
-Go shopping at the Odysseum mall.
Ride to the beach
The city of Montpellier is only 10km from the beach, which is therefore very easy to reach by car, public transport (tramway + shuttle bus) or even by bike thanks to a nice and well indicated cycling path. The ride to Palavas-les-flots takes around 45 min and follows the river, passing by the étang du Méjean where you will be able to spot some flamingos and various species of birds. Another option is to go to Carnon beach following a less pleasant and more urbanized path.
